Lake Como (or Lario), located about 80 kilometres from Milan between the provinces of Como and Lecco, is the deepest lake in Italy (410 meters) and the third lake after Lake Garda and Lake Maggiore.
Lake Como has an upside down Y-shape and winds into three branches: the Como branch to the southwest, the Lecco branch to the southeast and the Colico branch to the north.
The town of Como, from which the lake takes its name, hosts countless attractions, including the Silk Museum with testimonies of silk processing.

Places to visit on lake Como and surroundings:
The Cathedral of Como, its construction began in 1396 and the facade is one of the most interesting examples of late Gothic. The Cathedral stands on a pre-existing church dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta. The Dome, designed by Filippo Juvarra, was built In the first half of the eighteenth century.
The Palazzo del Broletto, next to the Cathedral of Como stands the Palazzo della Ragione built in 1215. It was the seat of the civil power of Como for centuries.
The Basilica of Sant’Abbondio, an unmissable stop for those taking a holiday on Lake Como. The building is one of the most important testimonies of the 11th century Romanesque style.
The Volta Temple, testimony of the great celebration that was held in Como in 1899 in honour of Alessandro Volta, an Italian scientist who was born in the city of Como.
Villa Olmo is another must for anyone visiting Como. It is an eighteenth-century dwelling built in line with the style of the other villas in Como, Cernobbio, Bellagio and the other locations.
Cernobbio is one of the most exclusive destinations in Italy. Located in an enchanting setting at the foot of Mount Bisbino, on the western side of the lake. Cernobbio is dotted with numerous prestigious villas, among which Villa Erba and Villa d’Este stand out.
Comacina Island, near the western side of Lake Como. The island is famous for the remains of the 11th century Church of Sant’Eufemia, the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Soccorso (Ossuccio), a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2003, and the Houses for Artists built in 1940 by the architect Pietro Lingeri.
Bellagio is another internationally renowned tourist resort. In Bellagio everything is taken care of down to the smallest detail, so much so that it has been given the nickname “Pearl of Lake Como”. To visit: the gardens of Villa Melzi and Villa Serbelloni,
Menaggio, about ten kilometers away from Bellagio, has several places worth visiting, including the Villa Mylius Vigoni and La Crocetta with its extraordinary panoramic view.
